The ladies in Peru work in a building over 20 years old constructed by the townspeople. It is in serious need of electrical and flooring renovations. We need $4,000 to make the repairs. SWEATER SALE KEEPS PERUVIAN CO-OP GOING

In a small mountain town in Peru, 68 women get together to knit sweaters, hats, handbags and other items from the local alpaca wool.

They've organized as a collective called Artesania Pachamama, which means "Workshop of the Mother Earth," and use the profits from selling the sweaters to benefit their rural town of Manazo.

Representatives of the Artesnia will be showing off the ladies products and promoting the sale in Greensboro. Tune in to WFMY News 2 on November 6 at approximatley 7:49am and to FOX News 8 on November 9 at approximatley 7:25am. The sweaters this year look better than ever.

October Peru Penny Drive

The children of the Saint Pius X Elementary Faith Formation program are holding their annual Peru Penny Drive this month. This money will go to our sister parish in Peru. This is one of the many ways the parish of St.Pius tries to help the people of Manazo. If you have change you want to donate bring it to St.Pius this month.

Our retail sales dates for 2007 are as follows:

  • November 9,10,11 in Greensboro,NC at St.Pius X
  • December 1,2 in Clemmons,NC at Holy Family

Director of Operations Hired

The Artesania is proud to annouce that Pam Rohlman, a parishioner at Holy Family in Clemmons,NC has been hired as our Director of Operations. Part of our business plan has been to insure the long term continuity of the management structure for the Artesania. We want a organization that will help support the ladies efforts for many years to come. We are fortunate to have grant money to allow us to fund this part time position. Saint Pius X Involvement

Saint Pius X, 1990In May 1999 after the Peruvian terrorists, The Shining Path, were defeated several parishioners from Pius X visited Manazo to reconfirm the sister - parish relationship which began in 1980. This was a critical point for Artesania Pachamama.

Our Homes

Our houses are made of adobe brick with a thatch or tin roof.
